asked for haiku
over morning coffee –
brain tries to wake
(does a senryu count?)
Someone somewhere has declared this (April 17) Haiku Day.
Busy writing a poem a day this April for NaPoWriMo, as well as launching a new book plus a re-issue of an old one – rather than writing anything else new, I offer this one (off-prompt) for Friday Writings #173 at Poets and Storytellers United. Well it IS new, in response to Haiku Day, but it's also short, LOL. (The prompt at P&SU is 'Youth has no age'. Maybe this little thing says, rather, that age has no youth! *Sigh.*)
Actually is the brain asking for a coffee but dials up a haiku instead? Anyway, have a good day. :)
ReplyDeleteI think I just can't resist trying for a haiku when occasion arises – but not necessarily resulting in a good one!
DeleteI find myself counting syllables. Good way to wake up the brain.
ReplyDeleteI am of the school that thinks syllable count the least important rule of true haiku – though, like most of us, I started out that way.
DeleteWhy not? How many English language readers know the difference anyway? ;-D
ReplyDeletePris cilla King
True, lol.
DeleteLOL, the lack of caffeine usually robs me of my ability to string words together. Good on you for turning it inspiration instead.
ReplyDelete*Smile.*
DeleteIs that a text poem - I enjoyed doing that - well done on the breakfast write and thank you for your kind comment at mine - Jae
ReplyDeleteA senryu is like a haiku, except it is about human beings and their quirks rather than the natural world. They are often humorous. The bit in brackets was meant to be an extra, not part of the senryu itself.
DeleteI like haiku and senryu. This one with morning coffee is energising, Rosemary. Nice.
ReplyDelete*Big smile.* I'm glad you enjoyed it!
DeleteWithout morning coffee, I can think of nothing.
ReplyDeletePrecisely!
