We who with songs beguile your pilgrimage / And swear that Beauty lives though lilies die, / We Poets of the proud old lineage / Who sing to find your hearts, we know not why ... (James Elroy Flecker)

Extremes

Oppressive winter sinks my spirit in a pit of apathy – a stilled, frozen depth of indifference; I just want to hibernate. In spring, however, my flesh sings alive, I waken to renewed love of this world our home; I open to delight.

For Friday Writings #213 at Poets and Storytellers United, we are invited to  include any or all of these sets of words: 1. flesh/spirit, 2. spring/winter, 5. love/indifference.

    1. Mmm, except that winter is what I am looking ahead to just now ... but not for a while yet, and I do love autumn.

  2. Winter to me is a log fire to warm the heart and hearth! Spring heralds the awakening of weeds.

    1. Ha ha, to each their own. We both live in the right places for us, clearly ... and I am lucky that someone else comes and pulls my weeds now that I'm elderly.

  3. I waken to renewed love of this world our home; I open to delight. Beautiful and yes Spring does that to you

  4. We don't have winters here, just some cold. Once about every ten years we have snow. Perhaps.

  5. Nature has its own quiet wisdom. Some lives meet adversity by stepping back, conserving warmth and strength — not in denial, but in preparation. A calm understanding that adversity exists, yet need not be confronted head-on every time. - I just want to hibernate, too

  6. Thank you Rosemary. Tech guy coming over this morning. The last one said it was beond his expertise ( I know I know...) Autumn has a sad vibe for me. I am always sad to see Summer leave. I dont care how hot it gets. It seems to get shorter as the years go by. Our winters are very mild though so sould not complain. You may be puttingpoems on for me for some time if the problem is not fixed. I hope it's not complicated or time consuming to do it...if so beast leave it. Thanks again

    1. Yes, I suppose Autumn is a bit melancholic, but I do love its Keatsian mellowness.
Not at all difficult or time-consuming to link your poems; just email me with the link if necessary.

  7. We've been having a pretty intense winter here. It makes it really hard to get my steps in when I'm sinking though a foot of snow! My spirit still takes a little joy in how pretty it looks -- from my window, while I'm inside warming my flesh with a cup of tea!
