We who with songs beguile your pilgrimage / And swear that Beauty lives though lilies die, / We Poets of the proud old lineage / Who sing to find your hearts, we know not why ... (James Elroy Flecker)

To Look or To Be?

If I need a lewk, can it be

Morticia Addams; or would that be

delulu? New hair would be

a must, but you know I’d be

so fine in black. Now, don’t you be

telling the broligarchy! They be

hating witches; so then where’d I be?

For Friday Writings #192 at Poets and Storytellers United, we are asked to explore or include the following words: delululewkbroligarchy. This is when I know I'm old! The prompt is not compulsory, so I needn't have done it, but I thought I'd have a go. However, I didn't love these words enough to really enjoy them.

PS I hoped that ending each line with the same word might help make some sort of poetry out of  this piece of nonsense.

(Morticia Addams came to mind because I have been enjoying the second season of  'Wednesday' lately – and yes, I am very old: I've been wanting to look like Morticia since Carolyn Jones inhabited the role.)

  1. Clever use of the prompt words, Rosemary. Broligarchy write use, I had forgotten who you were.

  2. I love this cunning, witchy take on the words (fine flash poetry) and may you always have your inner Morticia Addams - Jae

  3. Haha ... now I can't help imagining you in a long black wig topped with a pointy hat, brewing magical dishes while being assisted by your adorable cat. :))

  4. You did a nice job on the words I avoided!

  5. I think it is a very good effort. It makes sense to me. And delulu really rolls off the tongue very nicely. :)

    1. Thank you.

You're right, delulu is a pretty one, quite musical.

  6. I enjoyed your poem!! Clever and a great way to use those words, not an easy task. As a witch you have to be flying around in the Land of Oz ... a really good witch.

    1. Ha ha, yes we do all call our country Oz, although we don''t mean the one you can get to from Kansas. (I think Morticia lives in New Jersey, though she traces her ancestry back to Salem, Massachusetts – but as I only aspire to look like her, I'm sure it's fine if I stay here.)

  7. LOL...that's something! I tried using skibidi and failed...even lowkey and coded...it's a whole other language! But you did fabulously! I am inspired to try the dialect of the young!

  8. I enjoyed this take on the prompt. Witches can be good too.

  9. Nah....the Morticia lewk is too time consuming...think of all the visits to the Hairdresser :) Good use of the words.

    1. Oh yes, good point. Also the glamorous outfits would be fairly uncomfortable, now I come to think of it.
