We who with songs beguile your pilgrimage / And swear that Beauty lives though lilies die, / We Poets of the proud old lineage / Who sing to find your hearts, we know not why ... (James Elroy Flecker)

Shine on!

How much light

will vanquish darkness?

It can never

be eradicated fully,

only lessened, brought

into some balance.

In today’s world

light’s a pinprick –

so much dark matter

crowding it out.

Yet it doesn’t

take much light

to pierce and illuminate

the deepest shadows.

Written for Quadrille #231: Making Much of Poems (44 words, including 'much') at dVerse Poets Pub .

  5. A pertinent question, Rosemary, and I agree with this: ‘In today’s world light’s a pinprick – so much dark matter crowding it out’.

  6. I am reminded of the song we children sang in church so so long ago ~~ "this little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine." Thank you and your poem for jogging my memory.
