NaHaiWriMo 2021, Days 15-21
(responding to prompts at the NaHaiWriMo group on facebook)
Day 15: One
after 10 years
our one frangipani
covers the wall
Day 16: Vertigo
your dead voice
whispers in my ear –
everything spins
Day 17: Beautiful Day
cool wet summer –
beautiful weather
with no bushfires
Day 18: Pride
all my cats
prowled stalked pounced and lolled
as lions
Day 19: With or Without You
dear facebook
surprise! – you’re not the only
source of news
[Aussies can no longer see Australian
news on fb. They’re punishing us for our
Govt's attempts to enforce copyright fees.]
Day 20: Where the Streets Have No Names
(variations on a theme; not a sequence)
in the dreamscape
bleak streets are empty
their signs blank
*********
the street signs
unseen by human eyes
say nothing
*********
with no-one left
to read the street signs
they point nowhere
Day 21: I Still Haven’t Found
What I’m Looking For
‘Let’s hunt the snark!’
‘Yes!’ Only later wondered
what that might be.

Thank you. Yes, it's fascinating to see how, even when we are given prompts which have nothing to do with us, we can't help but draw the responses from our own lives.
DeleteI’m enjoying your haiku/senryu diary very much, Rosemary. I love the idea of frangipani covering a wall as in the UK they can only be grown as house or conservatory plants. The one that made me sit up was ‘Vertigo’ and the one that made me grin was ‘Pride’. I also like this one:
ReplyDelete‘with no-one left

Kim, you made me realise I could have included a photo – so now I have. I hope you come back to see it.
DeleteMy favorite is Vertigo, which I have right now and it's making me look at it differently. I also love snark would could almost be shark and the mem to Facebook. Love the energy and twist and turns here.
ReplyDeleteVertigo may be caused by many different things, I suppose. Not a pleasant feeling, whatever the cause.
DeleteThe prompt giver is obviously a U2 fan. Though I really loved how you took the titles of their songs and created something that is so perfectly you.
ReplyDeleteThey're using a different band each week. Next week the Beetles. It might be harder for me to not to refer to the songs in that case; they're almost part of me.
DeleteHaven't checked in for a couple of days; I see you're still going strong. Wonderful work, R.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes, I'm having a month of micropoetry.
DeleteLove no. 1 and 19.
ReplyDeleteSpoken like a true-blue Aussie chick.
DeleteI absolutely love the little snippet about the street signs! Thanks for a day-brightener!
ReplyDeleteI like to think it's bit like that Zen question about a tree falling in the forest.
DeleteThe anniversary of my little brother's death is only 7 days away, so your "Vertigo" hit me right in the heart. I know that feeling too well. Those whispers make entire lives spin in grief, in remembrance, in bittersweet knowing...
ReplyDeleteI love your micropoetry. Amazing how such few words can convey so much!
ReplyDeleteI like doing them.
DeleteNice set Rosemary.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday
Thank you for droppibg by my blog today
Much💗love
Same to you, Gillena.
DeleteLove these. They're so unique and creative. Couldn't really pick a favorite. Like them all.
ReplyDeleteThat's what a poet like to hear!
DeleteThe one for day 16 is my favorite. :)
ReplyDeleteThe snark was a mythical beast invented by Lewis Carroll but for the life of me I can't remember if it was in a book or a poem...or both.
ReplyDeleteIt was both. And, though mysterious for some time, in the end the snark was revealed to be a boojum – of course!
DeleteDay 21 made me giggle out loud ~~ you have a wonderful talent for haiku and senryu. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I find haiku difficult, but senryu happen much more easily. (I suspect I'm not alone in this.)
DeleteCanada may follow Australia - Facebook at al does need some regulations.
ReplyDeleteKeep these poems coming!
I think fb might have shot itself in the foot on this one. Google responded more intelligently with what seems to be a win-win.
DeleteI'll definitely keep the micropoems coming during February – which means PS&U folks will be reading some of them well into March.
As an anti-Facebooker I naturally like "facebook / you're not the only source of news." I can't understand why anybody's ever used it! Congratulations on getting out, and I hope you stay out!
ReplyDeleteSorry to disappoint you; I'm not getting out. I never used it as a source of news in the first place. I use it to stay connected to my geographically scattered family and friends, including many poets from all over the world. And I use it very much in my own way, picking and choosing my kind and degree of participation. It's not necessary to let oneself be manipulated and/or scammed. Which doesn't mean I'm not annoyed with it just now for the ban on Oznews. And I'm also annoyed with the Australian Govt for supporting the Murdoch Press etc. It's not a simple issue. But neither need it be so devastating as many seem to think.
DeleteEach seem like a response in a conversation but we only hear one side. But I had my Sunday Bloody Sunday (skinned knuckles doing work) and my New Years Day will be this coming Saturday.
ReplyDeleteThis made me smile for several reasons as I Surrender to your words.
(apologies, I'm stuck on the old ones, Rosemary)
