(Responding to February prompts at the NaHaiWriMo facebook group)
Day 22: Yesterday
my yesterday
became all my tomorrows –
I still believe
Day 23: Twist and Shout
… like we did last summer …
oh no, that was a different song
many summers gone
Day 24: Across the Universe
Mars photos –
the surface dirt
looks normal
Day 25: Ticket to Ride
just one day there
rode cable cars in San Fran –
missed City Lights
Day 26: While My Guitar Gently Weeps
the handsome one
quiet idealist –
I loved you best
Day 27: Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
sky-high –
the planets whirl
Day 28: Love Is All You Need
Help! I want to
hold your hand yeah yeah yeah
love me do
I love that this whole selection reads like lyrics in a song, especially the last one (which I sang aloud). Day 26 made me sigh...
ReplyDeleteBecause this week the prompts were Beatles song titles — part of my fabric — in most cases I couldn’t resist referring back to song or singer, even going further back and dragging dear Chubby Checker in for a minute. So I’m glad the whole lot gave you a sense of song and even some actual singing.
DeleteGreat workout on the haiku with Beatle's song titles. Amazing!
ReplyDeleteYou really missed City Lights? Awww! :)
Yes I know!!! But we actually weren’t even there a whole day, just a few hours between flights, and didn’t know our way around at all. We fluked it for a public holiday, found ourselves on Fisherman’s Wharf, and did visit a bookshop where I found a real treasure, a huge volume of Georgia O’Keefe reproductions accompanied by her process notes for painting each. Then we had to buy a carry-bag for it which I toted on board the next plane with a carefree air as if it didn’t weigh a tonne!
Delete(We didn’t have to do another check-in. It was before 9/11; might be less relaxed now.)
DeleteI enjoyed them all Rosemary!
ReplyDeleteThat’s good. I had fun writing them.
DeleteI enjoyed your riff on Beatles’ songs, Rosemary! Your series got me humming them and I think they will stay with me all day! ‘Twist and Shout’ made me smile, I remember both songs, and my father taught me to twist to ‘Let’s Twist Again’ – with a bath towel! ‘Across the Universe’ is a coincidence – I watched ‘The Martian’ last night.
ReplyDeleteNot a great dancer, alas, but the twist was one I could manage. Therefore of course I loved it, long after its vogue had passed.
DeleteRead them all on instagram too and loved them especially 22 and 24
ReplyDeleteThank you. (Smile.)
DeleteI'm glad I had a chance to visit City Lights when my husband and I took our vacation to San Fran a couple of years ago. It was a lovely place. We took our treasures to a coffee shop around the corner to enjoy them.
ReplyDeleteThese were all such cool bits!
Lucky you! Sounds lovely. However, even with that glaring lack, I loved my brief time in San Fran.
DeleteGood job you wrote all the prompts for February. Last night i read in the zoom meeting. There will be another meeting today Sunday
ReplyDeleteMuch💗love
I wasn't able to get to the first zoom meeting (which was Sunday day-time for me) due to previous engagement. And the second is too deep into my night. Great idea, I'm sure most enjoyable for those who could participate.
DeleteVisited City Lights ages ago, in my (much younger) Hippedom, would love to get back once the Covid's over. Love these Beatlicious haiku. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ron. I'm glad you enjoyed.
DeleteI had to mention City Lights in homage to the wonderful Ferlinghetti who has so recently left us (at a grand old age).
You write in my favourite style. Keep these coming.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I produce more senryu than true haiku – but perhaps that's what you like? I do plan to keep on doing micropoems of various kinds. Thank you for the encouragement.
DeleteTime went quickly...yep enjoyed it too. I like 28 incorporating all the different songs. I think the Beatles were overrated....although did not stop me from entering the spirit of the age sporting an afro and wearing kaftans:)
ReplyDeleteI think it was the fact that in their day they were innovators which earned their reputation. And at their best they diid have a lovely zestfulness. And yeah, part of the zeitgeist. I didn't have the afro but definitely sported the caftans (in fact I still do).
DeleteIt's apparent that you've enjoyed this Ticket to Ride. (Couldn't resist)
ReplyDeleteLOL
DeleteRe Day 25. City Lights is a great experience. I went to San Francisco many years ago to visit a friend, and found my way to the bookstore. While I didn't see Lawrence Ferlinghetti, I did see many interesting people...and books, wonderful books!
ReplyDelete*Envy, envy, envy!*
DeleteThat last one is clever. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks. I was rather proud of it!
DeleteThese are excellent, Rosemary!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm so glad you think so.
