Summer Love
She needed a new home. Not a young cat, she was already eight. Wary, suspicious, defensive, she gradually became secure, trusting, loving – intensely loving. And I loved her, as never before. Her various illnesses didn’t show up immediately.
Summer when she came.
She left three summers later.
Now, increasing cold.
Love comes in many faces and ways, and to gain the trust of a feline, is no small feat. But the blessings bestowed are treasured gifts that touch the soul forever. I'm sure your short time together was magical - and if anything, Selene was offered a most precious reward of an excellent "golden age" filled with so much love.

DeleteI remember how she slowly settled into your love, and then basked in it. It is wonderful you two had those three years - it is never long enough. I love the idea, as Pat describes, of your time together as a "golden age."
ReplyDeleteTo earn the love and trust of an abused one, is the work of a saintly soul. I say this, as someone, who has suffered as an abuse survivor, and the healer of an cat, who has shown me, what true love is. Farewell, Selene, but never forgotten.
