We who with songs beguile your pilgrimage / And swear that Beauty lives though lilies die, / We Poets of the proud old lineage / Who sing to find your hearts, we know not why ... (James Elroy Flecker)

The Non-Human Factor

The Non-Human Factor

Now we can make robots
of great size and strength.
They can perform
all useful functions.
We can even train them
to play the saxophone.

But why is it that a robot,
playing that instrument
in a perfectly programmed
replica of great music,
has never reduced an audience
to spontaneous tears of delight?

  4. I like this, Rosemary. Robots make me smile. I'm sure engineers are working to make robots with artificial intelligence.

  5. Science can be amazing, but you can't replace the creative touch of a human.
